The college has been imparting training to the teachers from a period of even more than 4 decades occupies a prominent position among other colleges and has an undoubtedly glorious history. 1 ST October 1912 is a red letter day in history of modern education in Surat. On auspicious day.

Late Shri Chunilal Chaganlal Shah founded the Sarvajanik education society. Thus were sown the seeds of an institution which has now grown in to a big organization of voluntary education effort, largely dependent upon the goodwill of the people of Surat; and the devotion of successive teams of spirited workers.

In 1961 when the spacious bungalows and other landed estates of the Seth V.T.Choksi Gurukul Trust, situated near Athwalines, Suart, were made over as a gift to the society, the society established the Sarvajanik College of education for Training Secondary Teachers, thus fulfilling a long felt need. When its golden jubilee year was fast approaching, the society felt satisfied that its long cherished desire to start a full fledged college of education had materialized. The Sarvajanik Adhyapan Mandir, College for the training of teachers was the Sarvajanik education society's latest venture in the field of education.

The college started functioning from June 15, 1961. Shri C.C.Shah was appointed principal of the college. Who later on becomes the first vice chancellor of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat. The college was formally declared open on July 3 rd 1961 by Dr.K.L.Shrimali, (union minister of education). To start with there were 60 seats in the college, then increased to 110 in year 1962.

In the year 1980, the college was awarded the best education college of Gujarat state by the government.

In March 2003 our college was upgraded and a Center for teacher Education was inaugurated

Our college has been providing in-service training program to Secondary and Higher secondary teachers of Surat, Bharuch and Narmada districts of Gujarat State.

The government aided college is permanently affiliated with Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat. The intake capacity of the college is 100 students as per the rules & regulations of the Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat and the state government. The students are given centralized admission on purely merit basis by the centralized admission committee of the Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat .

Most of the permanent teachers of this college have doctorate degree in education. At present educational methods like gujarati ,hindi , sanskrit,social science, economics ,mathematics and science are taught in the college.

Though the course of B.Ed. is only for a one year, students or trainees enjoy a lot in this fun filed year as so many various co-curricular activities are carried out in the college and the trainees are awarded by many different kinds of awards. Moreover the Gold medal is also given to the trainee who obtains the highest score at the university examination.

The objectives of the institution are.....

To prepare trainees for teaching at secondary and higher secondary schools.

To make affords for improving the quality of class room teaching.

To make the trainees and in service teachers aware of new technology and innovations in educations.

To cultivate in trainees, educational and professional competency by providing them with first hand learning experiences.

To provide training for the success full implementation of the educational program. In order to survive new innovations in the field of education and to survive in this competitive era, personal capability is necessary. For the development of this type of capability, this college is making continuous affords and is trying to be a pilgrimage of knowledge.
